Arena version

• Migration of commodities from Front Arena 2018.2.3 to 2023.2.2.

• Products included commodity variants, PM spot, PM future, PM loan, PM swap, CO2 spot, CO2 future, CDS, index CDS.
• Developed a reconciliation tool to compare instrument and trade attributes in the old and new system, based on Python, ACM, AEL, ASQL and pandas.
• Contributed to the development of the migration code, which generated AMBA messages to be imported into the new version. Helped with tricky technical topics such as linking near and far leg of swap trades through the AMBA trade process tag.
• Technologies used included Python, AEL and ACM from within a Linux environment. Scheduled cron jobs for triggering migration scripts overnight.

• Solved several defect tickets for the interest rate derivatives team. As input for the migration XML extracts from SUMMIT were used. The output were AMBA files which could be imported into the new Front Arena system.

Publicly regulated bank in Munich - consolidation trading IT systems into Front Arena, collaterals

• Worked as part of the migration team, who was responsible for delivering the final setup in semi weekly incremental steps. During this process many departments were building upon and relying on the migration teams? work. This required high focus on the delivery of stable, same day solutions.
• Personal responsibility was centered around the migration of collateral trades from Front Arena 2018.2.3 to 2022.2.3. The product range covered both security and cash collaterals.
• In this role it was required to liaise with business stakeholders and technical colleagues for evaluating the best approach for the implementation of requirements.
• Cash collateral positions in the old system had to be aggregated via a query prior to their migration into the new system. Zero positions were discarded.
• To ensure PnL figures are correct in the new system, help trades were generated to close positions at the end of the previous year, and re-open them at the beginning of the new year. The same was done for the end of the previous month and the beginning of the current month.
• Migration of cash and interest payments.
• For each collateral trade, trade agreement links had to be created for linking master agreements, collateral annexes and margining sets. To achieve this, various mapping files from other teams had to be integrated. To cover all possible scenarios a logic for interpretation of wildcard mappings was developed. To keep the required logic simple, flexible and powerful, the implementation was done using the pandas library in Python.
• All implementations had to be meticulously designed with high performance in mind. In this context, megabyte large mapping files were preprocessed before the actual migration started: these csv files were converted into pandas dataframes, which were then serialized and written to file. These machine readable, binary files were then used by the migration process. The entire process had to be designed in a way to allow for multiprocessing, as to ensure acceptable migration runtime. This implied that output files needed some post processing to be aggregated and structured in the appropriate format.
• Issue investigation, reconciliation analysis, migration monitoring, bug fixing, implementation of new requirements, reporting to the project management and communication with stakeholders had to be done efficiently and during times under considerable time pressure.
• Technologies used were Python, ACM, AEL, the AMBA export and import hooks, the AMB developer framework, powershell scripting, ASQL, the agile development process, Azure CI/CD with GIT, Pycharm IDE.
• Accompanied the golive process through steps outlined in the runbook.
• Supported the bank during the hypercare phase after golive to eliminate defects and bring the new system into a stable state.

Financial services group in Copenhagen - performance optimization for traders using OMNI

• The main issue was that heavy equity and derivatives traders took 20-30 minutes to start their OMNI sessions. While it was a plain nuisance in the mornings, it took a big toll on traders if their connections got interrupted intraday.
• Took a structured approach to gather all known and potentially related issues, prioritized and worked through them. After completion, the OMNI startup time was reduced to 2-4 minutes (from 20-30 minutes initially).
• The various solutions encompassed OMNI, AIMS, XMBA, AMSC, RAMSA, Rule Editor and AMB.
• Identification of the size of the sales order table as the most critical bottleneck. Unfortunately the filtered view is not smart in a sense that it uses only what is filtered for.
• Analysis of the downstream flow in Calypso, Rolf & Nolan and the central trade hub. Application of filterings at the most upstream location, on outdated XMBA components.
• Outlining of steps for manual removal of sales orders (unlock orders, remove from order program, enter fill, shape, remove sales order). Specified checks in AMB DB to monitor queue and in XMBA details log. This allowed for a controlled manual cleanup in batches.
• Setup of auto shape: made registry settings for auto shape on AIMS, created free text field with default account, created a rule in AIMS rule editor to flag specific accounts as auto shape.
• Registry setup in AIMS for auto removal of shaped sales orders and locked sales orders and sales orders part of an order program. Due to the AIMS version not all were removed.
• Upgrade of AIMS from 2019.1.0 to 2021.4.1: re-tested auto remove sales orders which worked fine under new release.
• Connected previous year?s RAMSA to AIMS, to allow AIMS to keep less data within its DB.
• After tests, recommended traders to swap their computers for ones which have been freshly set up software wise. This drastically improved intraday lagging.
• OMNI workspaces were investigated and shrinked to essential needs of individual teams and traders. An equities only workspace made OMNI startup less than a minute for certain teams.
• Setup of dedicated AMSCs for heavy traders. Throttling configuration for prices, deals and public orders.
• Created test cases and test evidence for all setups described.

• Work within a DevOps model: the mission was two fold. I helped to fight fires in production and supported the transformation of the system landscape to become simpler and easier to maintain.
• On the change the bank side involvement in performance optimizations in OMNI, AIMS, AMSC and RAMSA.
• Upgrading components using ansible playbooks, bitbucket and bamboo deployments where possible, manual upgrade otherwise. Components upgraded include AIMS, AMAS

• First level support for equity, derivatives and fixed income order execution in nordic and international markets. The system was centered around the Front Arena arena market access landscape. The traders were using OMNI as the main UI. Prime was only used for some configurations around users, permissions, charges and order books. Many legacy systems were connected to Front Arena and gradually streamlined to a UL hosted platform. The derivative business along with main risk functionalities had been moved to the Tbricks system. Back office in Calypso and in-house regulatory systems were also linked to Front Arena.

• Deployment of change requests to the productive system following the bank?s strict change management process. This involved verification of approvals, following installation instructions, running verifications and if necessary performing rollbacks.

• Monitoring the system landscape through Geneos, investigating issues in Splunk, through tnpfind, OMNI, Rule Editor, Account Manager, Prime.

• Running through morning, evening, Sunday and bank holiday checklists to manage the Front Arena market access system landscape. This meant dealing with dozens of servers within a clustered Windows server environment and navigating through eventlogs using tnpfind. The same was done for the Tbricks system, by checks in the frontend as well as checks in the linux backend.

• ASBS Softbroker first level support: troubleshooting trade and order flow, restarting of components and trade gateways. Failover and failback testing via the Linux backend.
  
• Helping to reduce the noise in alerting applications.
• Liaising with the network team from HCL in India and with FIS support. Created and provided videos and screenshots to explain and showcase issues.
• Participation in problem investigations after business critical incidents. Derived actionable steps to avoid the same incidents in the future and make the system more resilient.
